The 2010-11 data shows that the district is performing below the state's proficiency in math. According to this data, 11th grade math scores are far below the state. All grade levels showed improvement in writing and reading. The 2009-10 data shows that 8th and 11th grade science scores are lower than that of the district and that of 4th grade science. One possible explanation, by the time students get to high school, they already became not interested in science and they think of science as too difficult and they refused or they are simply ill prepared to think critically.

Woonsocket District / NECAP Assessments

For this report I looked at 11th grade NECAP assessments in math, reading, and writing comparing 2008 to 2011 with data supplied by InfoWorks! Rhode Island Education Data Reporting - RIDE.ri.gov a.htm.

Math state wide went up 3 points from 2008 as compared with 2011. The District data did not change, it was 16% proficient in 2008 and did not change in 2011.

Reading statewide went up 7points during this time period but increased 20 points in the district. While the district is still 7 points below the state average it did show a great improvement during this time period.

Writing showed the greatest improvement both statewide and district wide. The state improved 23% while the district improved 31 %.

In conclusion while the district is still below the proficiency average in math, reading, and writing there has been a dramatic increase in reading and writing, but has shown no improvement in math.
